The inaugural Shirley Verrett Award, established in honor of the late University of Michigan James Earl Jones Distinguished University Professor of Voice and internationally acclaimed opera singer, will be presented at a ceremony celebrating her life and legacy.

Glenda Dickerson, Professor of Theatre at the University of Michigan’s School of Music, Theatre and Dance, is the inaugural Shirley Verrett Award winner. The annual award, established by the Office of the Senior Vice Provost, honors the legacy of internationally acclaimed opera singer Shirley Verrett, who was also the James Earl Jones Distinguished University Professor of Voice in Michigan’s School of Music, Theatre and Dance.

Please plan to join us on Sunday, November 6 at 3:30 pm at Stamps Auditorium.

The event will feature performances by two of Shirley's former students, Kimberly Haynes and Kimberley Dolanski, as well as words from friends and colleagues. The Tribute and Award Presentation will be followed by a light reception.
