CEW Welcomes New Director

CEW’s current director, Gloria Thomas, has accepted a new position and will head to The University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, to lead the Carolina Women’s Center. Dr. Thomas has led CEW for the past seven years and her leadership and outreach have positioned CEW well for the future. We congratulate Gloria on her new appointment and wish her well in this next phase of her career!

The University of Michigan Provost’s office has completed a rigorous director search, and we are delighted to report that Tiffany Marra will be the next director of CEW, effective July 11.

Tiffany currently serves as the founding director of UM-Dearborn’s Hub for Teaching and Learning. The nature of the student community on the Dearborn campus-26% under-represented minority students, 50% nontraditional students, 92% financial aid recipients-has been the context for Tiffany’s development of a wide range of programs and resources in support of student success, faculty engagement, and empowerment of women and nontraditional students, including SmartGirl and Women in Learning and Leadership. She is a former program manager at both the Institute for Research on Women and Gender and the student-focused project MPortfolio, volunteered as Director of the Women in Learning and Leadership program, and received her PhD in Education from the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor.

Along with her deep knowledge of the University, Tiffany brings to this leadership role an outstanding record of collaboration, demonstrated commitment to campus and student needs, and innovation in the use of technology to support community-building. She will provide strong leadership and position CEW as a key contributor in the campus-wide Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion project led by President Schlissel, and is committed to working with all members of the CEW community to move its mission and programs forward.

We at CEW look forward to continuing to serve women and nontraditional students under Dr. Marra’s leadership. As always, please check back here for news, updates, and descriptions of upcoming events and programs.
