CEW Counselors

CEW's counseling staff consists of trained counselors with years of experience working with women and men as they undergo life transitions. In addition to CEW staff, counseling is offered by Interns from the University of Michigan School of Social Work. You can read more about our counseling services here. Our counseling staff consists of:

Jacqueline Bowman, Ph.D, MA / Lead Counselor and Program Specialist
Jacquie enjoys assisting students, staff, faculty and the community with their career development strategies. She conducts workshops on various educational and career topics including special sessions for incoming transfer students. Dr. Bowman also serves on the University's community college road show and outreach team. Jacquie's expertise comes from professional work experience in both the academic and corporate sector. She received her master's degree and Ph.D from the University of Michigan in Educational Psychology.
Kirsten A. Elling, Ph.D. / Associate Director for Operations and Counseling Program
Kirsten oversees CEW's career and educational counseling, as well as our program offerings for students, faculty, staff, and community members. Additionally, Kirsten serves on a number of U-M committees and consults and collaborates with a range of U-M units/departments. Currently her availability for counseling appointments is limited.
Samara Hough, LMSW-ClinicalCounselor and Program Specialist
Samara provides career and educational advising as a member of the CEW counseling team. She has expert knowledge of working with survivors of relationship violence as well as experience in supporting individuals and families experiencing economic hardship. Samara provides support to the social work program as a field supervisor and is a liaison for the Blavin Scholar Program. She received her bachelor’s degree in Women’s Studies and Psychology from the University of Michigan. In addition, Samara has a Master’s degree in Social Work with a concentration in Family Systems Theory from Wayne State University.
Doreen Murasky, LMSW, ACSW / Student Program Manager
Doreen oversees the scholarship, fellowship and social work internship programs at the Center. In addition, she enjoys providing counseling and developing and presenting dynamic programs with a focus on holistic life planning through the lifespan. Currently her availability for counseling appointments is limited.
