You are not alone in your job search. Attend one or all of these sessions, and you will gain ideas and support for your search from CEW counselors, human resource professionals and others who are in the job market. Each week features a different theme, described below.

Job Search Series: Career Decision-Making

Navigating the Maize: Make the UM Careers Web Site Work for You

This session offers you an overview of the University of Michigan's hiring process, including information about accessing the temporary employment pool, and tips for internal and external candidates on using the UM's automated application system. There will also be a brief introduction to the new Career Path Navigator online tool.

Voice Habits That Can Sabotage Your Professional Success

Presentation Skills: How to Write an Effective Speech

In this session, participants will learn how to convert their ideas into compelling, well-organized speeches that communicate their thoughts clearly. Get expert advice on the following topics:

identifying the purpose or theme of your speech;
understanding your audience (demographics, interests)
determining the key points of your message
organizing your thoughts.
constructing the three parts of a speech (intro, body and closing)

Presentation Skills: How to Deliver an Effective Presentation

The second part of this workshop series will focus on the delivery of your presentation. This session will cover the following areas:

preparing yourself mentally
physically delivering the speech
using audio/visual aids (overheads, PowerPoint) and props.
