Julia plans to work with her church to develop programs that enhance access to technology and technological literacy among women in her community.
Julia Kassab is pursuing a bachelor’s degree in information systems and analysis from the University of Michigan. She is proud to be a Global Scholar, a first-generation student, and a first-generation American. Her background and upbringing have shaped Julia’s work ethic, generosity, and drive.
Julia hadn’t considered a career in computer science until she participated in the CS KickStart program, a weeklong course that introduces women and other minority groups to computer science basics, and fell in love with computer science. She got involved with Girls in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (GEECS), where she serves on the internal relations committee, mentors other young women in the field, and writes about her experiences for the GEECS blog.
Julia is also passionate about making positive change in the world, and has a strong background in social and economic policy. She is a Social Transformation Fellow at the Barger Leadership Institute, where her research focuses on public policy and human rights. She is also a Magnify Leadership Fellow at the Center for Positive Organizations and a Don Lavoie Fellow at the Mercatus Center of George Mason University. She previously held internships at Habitat For Humanity International and the Institute for Economics and Peace. After graduation, Julia envisions giving back to her local community in Detroit. She plans to work with her church to develop programs that enhance access to technology and technological literacy among women in her community.
CEW+ celebrates Julia’s journey and names her an Irma M. Wyman Scholar.
