Alvin Thomas: Looking Inward to Create Change

"George Floyd spoke, and no one listened. He cried, and no one responded. Black people are crying out and America is not listening and not responding, because it hears the noise and not the pain."

CEW+ Podcast: Strength in the Midst of Change

This episode of Strength in the Midst of Change features Alvin Thomas, Assistant Professor at the School of Human Ecology, Department of Human Development and Family Studies, University of Wisconsin-Madison, and the first male to ever receive a CEW+ scholarship. Dr. Thomas shares why he decided to pursue his work and research on the positive development of African-American boys and the role of father involvement. Make sure to listen to the end to hear his hope for those listening to this podcast today.

Resiliency is best demonstrated in times of challenges. Join CEW+ Director Tiffany Marra as she talks to students, staff, faculty, and community members connected to the University of Michigan’s Center for the Education of Women+ (CEW+) in our podcast, Strength in the Midst of Change. Through this podcast, CEW+ seeks to create a safe place where you will be inspired by the stories of everyday people. Originally created to document the challenges resulting from COVID-19, CEW+ has expanded the podcast to include stories of combating racism through individual and organizational action.
