CEW+ is pleased to welcome the 2019-20 cohort of 72 Scholars to the CEW+ Scholar community. Thanks to the generous support of individuals, organizations, clubs, and foundations, this year marks our largest total to date: over $485,000 awarded to these resilient and determined agents of change.

Among them are student parents and primary caregivers, students who are returning to the classroom after a prolonged interruption, students who are underrepresented in STEM fields, first-generation, and international students, and students who have overcome great obstacles in order to achieve their dream of earning a degree in higher education. These individuals were selected through a highly competitive process as leaders with great potential to make a significant impact in their field.

Our 2019-20 Scholars include 14 doctoral students, 27 master’s students, and 31 undergraduate students, 59 of whom are studying on the Ann Arbor campus. We proudly support 7 additional students at UM-Dearborn, and 6 at UM-Flint. This year’s awards range from $1,000 to $11,500 to cover the cost of tuition and living expenses, with Mary Malcomson Raphael Scholarships for nominated doctoral students ranging from $4,000-$25,000. The average award amount for a 2019-20 CEW+ Scholar is over $6,700.
