Will Sherry: Being Gentle with Ourselves and Others

"Welcome to Fall 2020! I am excited to work together, co-creating a campus community where everyone can thrive."

This episode of Strength in the Midst of Change features Will Sherry, Director of Spectrum Center and Project Manager for Student Life. Will’s interview was conducted shortly after the stay-at-home order, but we thought his insights on family and self-care would be helpful during our first week back at U-M post-COVID.

Due to ongoing circumstances with the COVID-19 virus, the University of Michigan is taking additional precautions to ensure the safety of students and staff by closing the Spectrum Center. Although the physical space is closed, their dedicated team is continuing to serve students virtually between 9:00 am to 5:00 pm (EDT), Monday through Friday. In addition, Spectrum Center is hosting virtual drop-in hours. Sign up for an appointment slot here.

Wrap up move-in week with the Spectrum Center’s new Welcome event – Virtual Drag Bingo! Hosted by drag performers from the local Heads Over Heels drag troupe and Spectrum Center staff, they’ll be playing a few rounds of virtual bingo while also sharing community resources and giving out some great rainbow prizes. Registration is free and everyone can participate in the game. Click here to register.

Spectrum Center’s annual LGBTQ+ graduate student mixer, now virtual! Come hang out with other graduate and professional students in the community and start making connections! Plus, get a chance to learn more and ask questions about opportunities available to you via the Spectrum Center or Rackham, such as mentorship programs, upcoming events, and funding! Resiliency is best demonstrated in times of challenges. Join CEW+ Director Tiffany Marra as she talks to students, staff, faculty, and community members connected to the University of Michigan’s Center for the Education of Women+ (CEW+) in our podcast, Strength in the Midst of Change. Through this podcast, CEW+ seeks to create a safe place where you will be inspired by the stories of everyday people. Originally created to document the challenges resulting from COVID-19, CEW+ has expanded the podcast to include stories of combating racism through individual and organizational action. This podcast will continue to evolve as societal challenges shift over time.
